2019 saw the return of Pride celebrations to Suffolk after a long, rainbowless drought, and I was granted the absolute honour of creating graphics and marketing materials to spread the good word. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, this project meant a lot to me, and this definitely came across in the work I created.
THE BRIEF
INITIAL ILLUSTRATIONS
The organisers started simple. A poster to advertise the date of the parade and the events surrounding it.
I produced three preliminary illustrations, each with a different target audience in mind: a ‘mature’ illustration of the town’s Waterfront, where the parade was to take place; a ‘fun’, vibrant, youthful illustration to draw the attention of the younger LGBTQ+ community; and a more ‘commercial’, general public design, created with merchandise in mind.
The verdict? They loved them, and wanted all of them for a ‘collectable’ poster series.
THE PROCESS
DEVELOPMENT
With the surprising twist that all 3 designs were to be used, it was time to refine the illustrations and start mocking up the poster designs.
THE PRODUCT
FINAL DESIGNS

Along with posters, the ‘horse’ design was also made into a very popular t-shirt design which was sold at the event, and you may spot the shirt being sported by the residents of Ipswich here and there!
